This is my second ever digital painting. I have the first one, though it is only 95% completed. I had to put that one on hold, because this one had a closer deadline that needed to be done by, so yeah.

I personally think the other one is better, but each have their strong and weak points.

I had a tough time with getting the lighting and colors to work correctly on the waves. It was mostly an experimental piece to see how well I could paint an ocean.

As you can probably tell, it is inspired by every talented artist I've ever seen during my experience with digital art.

It was completely done in Photoshop 6.0...

Original Resolution: 18in. x 10in.

The small view looks fine, but a lot more is noticable in the full view. Background is nice, but I believe the clouds leave much to be desired - a little blending on them (and the ocean) would do wonders. For some reason I really like the moon/planet in the right-hand corner. Nice job, a little more work and this could be smashing.

I agree about the detail work. I think it's nice but with more convincing detail in the water it could really be a beautiful piece. I would concentrate on the way the water reflects the setting sun and put some more contrasts in there. The top part has some great color and shows some nice depth though. For your second digital piece, you're off to a great start!

thanks. yeah, i kinda had a "Speedpaint" mentality about the water, and it probably shows off in my 'rushed' brushstrokes.

*sigh* i really need to start doing stuff like this.. because I have no idea how to draw water let alone an ocean but the big view makes it easier to see how u achieved it.. and I wouldnt leave it that unblended but still.. I need to do an atmospheric pic.. its nice tho.. but I would have blended it all.. lol cuz im a blending freak ;D

the sun would leave a LOT stronger reflection (I spent 20 years of my life growing up next to the atlantic.. and man does it reflect that light..) and would most likely reach a lot further down towards the beach then you show it..

i do like the hint of otherworldlyness here.. not the usual pushed in the face kind of way..

I really like this image - you have a good grasp on lighting and although there are a few minor problems with it - the overall feel of the picture is great. Nice work.

This is nice! The sky, sun and water all look quite photorealistic. The only thing that does show through a little is the oncoming clouds or fog on the left-hand side. Other than that, it's really good.

By the way, the full version of this image doesn't seem to work right now. But I checked the other paintings on your website and they look promising, especially the space ship, SS1.

hehe, yeah i deleted the full version from the server to save up on space. i'll load it back again tonight. and thanks for your comment on the space ship. i hope to upload it soon also. it's not completed yet, and still in the sketch process, but i appreciate your comments!
